Let’s draw kawaii sweet peas!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. These sweet peas in a pod will make a perfect DIY Valentine’s Card!
This drawing is based on a figure-eight shape. Add a thick layer of “skin” around the figure-eight, and you’ve got peas in a pod!

Ok, let me list here the materials I used, why I chose them, and if they worked or not.
Materials I Used
- Hot-press (smooth) watercolour paper. I found this paper to be too smooth for my taste. It felt slippery. Next time I will use paper that has more texture.
- Watercolour paints to add colour. I think the watercolours worked well for this drawing, but I would’ve liked to make the peas a little lighter to make them stand out… oh well, next time.
- Masking fluid to mask out the pink cheeks, so I don’t paint over them. This was just to save time. I could have painted around them, but it takes more time and effort to carefully paint around a circle. With masking fluid, I painted the whole picture and then just removed the masking fluid at the end and added the pink.
- GellyRoll brown pen to do the outlines and text. I like GellyRolls because they feel “juicy” and they flow easily over any surface. The downside is that they take longer to dry and can smudge. I was very careful not to touch the lines with my hand while I was doing the outline.
